Lab 1: An Overview of ArcGIS

For our first week in Intro to GIS, we are learning basic ArcGIS tools and Views by creating a simple world cities map without any essential map elements. We worked through establishing a system to store and access all of our data and documents that we will use for the rest of the semester. After connecting the Lab 1 Data into ArcGIS Pro, I practiced changing how the data layers are displayed on my map using the Symbology pane. I chose a light to dark sequential color ramp for the Population field in the World Countries data layer to clearly symbolize smallest to largest country population sizes. I learned how to create a Map Layout so my map could be exported as a digital image. I had to practice a few times to perfectly align the map in the Layout View so that I didn't cut out any countries or have a lot of whitespace in my final image. I researched a little about Map Extent in ArcGIS Pro Help along with a few more basic terms in the Terminology Guide. I'm eager to develop my knowledge of GIS throughout this semester!
