Hello everyone!
As a part of our orientation assignments for my Computer Cartography course, we are creating a blog post to introduce ourselves and our goals for the GIS Certificate program at UWF. This is for our peers, university faculty, and potential employers who visit this site to get to know us personally and professionally.
Computer Cartography is my third course towards my GIS Graduate certificate. I graduated from the University of Tampa in 2020 with a BS in Environmental Science and a minor in Sustainability. My first introduction to GIS was during my undergrad in a course called Mapmaking for the Social Sciences. After graduating, my positions mostly involved environmental education and community outreach. I am looking to pivot to something more technical in the environmental field using GIS. My husband is an officer in the United States Marine Corps and we recently got stationed in Parris Island, SC so I have left my latest job as an environmental science educator in Virginia. This semester, I just get to focus on our move and class work!
